Maremma puppies to arrive in early July 2012:
Vincenzo and Donatella mated the week of May 6, 2012. We are now expecting a litter to be whelped somewhere around July 8th.
Donnie is beginning to show physically but it is emotionally that I can tell that she is pregnant. Donnie has always been close to me but when she is pregnant it appears that I cannot give her enough attention. She becomes even more lovable towards me and yet even more weary of strangers. Her guarding instincts are more in tune when she is pregnant than when not.
Another way I can tell she is pregnant is that she is now telling Vinny when he can eat. If she wants his food she goes over to him and shows her teeth with a low growl. Surprisingly Vinny is walking away allowing Donnie to eat his bowl as well. If she weren’t pregnant Vinny would definitely not stand for this. For this reason I do have to feed them in separate areas now.
This will be Vinny’s and Donnie’s third litter together. In the past Donnie has provided us with 9 puppies in her first litter and 10 puppies in her second. All previous Maremma lgd puppies have been sold and live across the US, in Puerto Rico, and Canada. They are guarding alpacas, chickens, pot belly pig, ducks, goats, sheep, and horses.
The Maremma lgd pups will be raised with my herd of alpacas. They should be ready to go to their new working homes by the second week of September 2012. Each pup is $850 which includes the 1st shot, 1st de-wormer, micro-chip, and registration paperwork. Atlanta airport is nearby so shipping is not a problem.
We are currently taking $100 deposits to reserve a Maremma lgd puppy. References are available upon request. More information on the Maremmas can be found on my site at www.desertmtnalpacas.com/education/maremmas/.
